Reference definitions for paint-cell terminology used in feasibility reviews, equipment selection, process setup, and production planning.
Best used for
Best used to create shared vocabulary across engineering, purchasing, operations, integrators, and external suppliers.
Use with caution
Definitions do not replace equipment datasheets, coating TDS/SDS documents, or site-specific compliance review.
Evidence basis
Compiled from TD engineering terminology, project scoping language, and equipment-integration workflows.
A paint recipe defines the complete set of spray parameters for a specific coating and application: atomization pressure, fluid flow, fan width, gun speed, and distance. Recipes must be developed and validated for each paint/part combination.
Why it matters in paint cells
- •Ensures consistent quality across production
- •Must be developed for each paint/part combination
- •Enables rapid changeover between products
Typical recipe parameters
- •Robot program selection and TCP speed settings
- •Fluid flow rate and atomization air pressure
- •Electrostatic voltage (if applicable)
- •Number of passes and overlap percentage
- •Flash-off time and cure temperature/duration
- •Color and material identification codes
